My Very First Article On EzineArticles.com

Over four years ago, I started a website consisting of recipes from my husband’s family.  They loss the family recipe book in  hurricane Katrina.  It was my first attempt at creating a website.

I discovered that people (outside of the family) were actually visiting my site. So I started adding more recipes to my www.Cooking-New-Orleans-Style.com website.

I wrote my first article and submitted it to EzineArticles.com.  It was called “You Say Merliton, I Say Mirliton – A Merliton By Any Other Name Tastes Just As Sweet.”  If you do not know what a merliton is, please visit EzineArticles.com and read it.

So how is cooking and entrepreneurism related?  If you have a hobby that you are passionate about, it can be a basis for an internet business.

I starting writing articles and pointed them to my website.  The power of article marketing is amazing.  By just writing articles and updating my website with recipes, I started getting traffic.   Now people in over 30 countries visit my cooking website.

Even a hobby can be profitable.  That’s the power of the internet.

Mardi Gras and Cajun Cooking

We attended Mardi Gras at the beginning of March and had a great time.  I decided to write a series of articles on Mardi Gras and point them to my Cooking New Orleans Style recipe website.  The response was tremendous.  Too bad I started writng the articles in February right before Mardi Gras.  I did not realize so many people would be interested.  My two favorite are Mardi Gras King Cake – The Royal Tradition of the King Cake Continues and  Mardi Gras Doubloons – Throw Me Somthing Mister .   Check out the articles if you have a chance!

How Do You Make Seafood Gumbo?

To answer the question how do you make seafood gumbo requires some background information.  First, there are 2 types of gumbo, okra and file.  Okra gumbo is thicker and is thickened by okra.  File gumbo requires a roux base and has a thinner consistency.  It is more like a soup than a stew.  Both types of gumbo are made with seafood.

Gumbo is one of the most famous cajun dishes.  I can not image Rachel Ray making gumbo on one of her 30 minute meal shows.  It just takes too long! The good news is that you make it in a very large pot so there are leftovers.  It tastes just as good the second day.

My mother-in-law, Granny Boutte,  makes the best gumbo.  On the rare occasions when there is quite a bit left over, we freeze the remaining gumbo.  Granny lives in New Orleans and we live in Houston. Several months will pass and when we discover a frozen container of gumbo, we feel like we have hit the jackpot!

Granny Boutte’s gumbo recipes are featured on the www.Cooking-New-Orleans-Style.com website.  She provides several recipes that answer the question how do you make seafood gumbo?
